Heading to the Cotswolds for Annual PAT Testing
This week, the Sense PAT Testing Services team travelled to the beautiful Cotswolds to carry out annual PAT testing across several luxury Airbnb holiday rentals. While there’s currently no legal obligation for Airbnb hosts in the UK to have their properties PAT tested, there is a duty of care to ensure electrical safety—especially since renting out a property is classed as running a business. In many cases, insurance providers also require regular testing as part of their safety compliance standards.
Long-Term Testing Partnerships with Local Airbnbs
We’ve been working with these stunning Cotswold properties for over five years, ensuring their electrical equipment remains safe and compliant. Each of these large Airbnbs features seven or more bedrooms, complete with games rooms, swimming pools, and hot tubs — offering guests a truly premium experience. Our team usually visits between guest stays, either using key safes for access, collecting keys, or meeting property owners on-site.
Common Electrical Issues in Holiday Rentals
During this year’s testing, we identified the usual culprits that can cause issues in holiday rentals — hairdryers, fans, and portable heaters — and occasionally come across imported items that fail to meet UK safety regulations. In some cases, these products even contain counterfeit or missing fuses. Thankfully, only a minor repair was needed this time, with all other items passing inspection.
